A class on Handgun Fundamentals is available under 2 options.

  • Option 1:  Once a student is registered in a LTC Course, we will make available a practice session, at the Bexar Community Shooting Range.  We will provide hearing and eye protection, as well as a 'loaner' handgun at no charge.  The cost to the student will be (1)the shooting range fee in effect at the time of the session, and (2)the cost of 100 rounds of ammunition, appropriate for the handgun they will be using.  Students borrowing a gun are asked to bring 9mm range/target ammo (no reloads).

We will provide instruction time, free of charge.

    • Since Handgun Fundamentals classes proceed at the student's pace, it is difficult to gauge the length of the session, however, most will last 2-3 hours.

    • Handgun Fundamentals Class will include:

      • Handgun Safety

      • Basic Handling Skills

        • Stance

        • Breathing control

        • Grip

        • Sight alignment

        • Trigger control

        • Follow through & recovery

      • Most sessions begin with a laser training pistol.  After the student is able to demonstrate a command of the fundamentals, they will transition to either their own firearm or one of our 9mm pistols.

      • The session concludes with the Texas LTC qualification course of fire.

      • Prerequisites - The Student must:

        • Be enrolled in a Staying Alive LTC Course,

        • Provide 100 rounds of ammunition of appropriate ammunition,

        • Pay the shooting range fee for the practice session,
