What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Get a quick overview of this buzzy farming method

Share

So what is regenerative agriculture, and why should you care? The future of food and the fight against climate change may very well rely on a method of farming called regenerative agriculture. There’s no universal definition of it, but there are widely accepted regenerative farming practices, including

  • forgoing tilling to avoid disturbing topsoil
  • using cover crops to amend soil and prevent erosion
  • integrating animals as a substitute for tilling and adding nutrients to soil

The goal isn’t to simply maintain soil health. It’s to build it, all the while sequestering enough carbon to reverse climate change. It sounds lofty, but those who are doing regenerative farming believe it’s achievable—and profitable for those involved.
